Please join me in welcoming Danielle Githens to the team! Danielle actually joined the team a few months ago, but we haven't had a chance to formally welcome her. Great to have a strong swimmer and runner joining the group - sounds like you'll be well suited for Porter's Aquathlon race in September! Great to have you onboard Danielle.

Danielle Githens completed her first triathlon in 2009, and now wonders why it took so long to give it a try. Her dad was a swim coach, so as a kid she spent summers at the pool harassing lifeguards and tormenting swim instructors (the water was always too cold!), and eventually graduated to the swim team. Once she started high school she turned in her goggles (largely to avoid those dreaded morning workouts) and ran cross country and track. At Haverford College, Danielle ran cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track, racing in Division III nationals in all three sports and earning Division III All-American honors in the 1500 meters. Fast forward to 2009, after a 15-year hiatus from competitive athletics and any real workouts or physical activity, she signed up for her first triathlon to motivate herself to get back in shape. Danielle found training for and racing triathlons to be a refreshing change of pace, sparking a long-dormant competitive spirit. She was especially surprised to find herself enjoying early morning swim workouts - much to her dad’s amusement. In 2009, she completed one super-sprint, and 2 sprint triathlons – cheered on by her husband Mike and boys, Jack (8) and Joe (6). In 2010 she would like to complete a longer race or two, but her primary goal is to obtain some sort of proficiency on the bike. In case you haven’t noticed, Danielle has absolutely no biking experience. Once she upgrades her mountain bike to a road bike, her favorite piece of triathlon equipment will be her bike! But for now it is her wetsuit because she still hates cold water...
